not a single one flew the coop…

…or sadly enough even had a chance to hatch. :( The eggs were there one day, gone the next. According to what I read it could have been a crow, blue jay, chipmunk, weasel, squirrel, skunk, raccoon, snake, small rodent, cat, or bird of prey.

Ummm, seeing as how this nest is right outside my bedroom window I would be really happy to know it was NOT at least four of those options!

  1. I have yet to blog about it, but we had a nest with baby birds in it while we were working on our “annual maintenance/garden overhaul” last month. We even transplanted the small oak with the baby birds in nest and mama mockingbird was very tolerant of our efforts. It was as if she knew we were trying to take care not to mess up her home nor mess with her babies. I went up to Keller for almost 3 weeks and they had grown and flown by the time I got home. I’m 52 and this was my first baby bird experience! It was fantastic!!
